What is that saying? Messy house, messy life? Well, I’don’t know if I fully believe that but I do believe that we could all use a little clutter clean up every now and again. Here a few suggestions to help declutter that messy office and set yourself up for a fresher and more successful day.
1. Put the Papers Away!!! If I had a nickel for every time I thought that or told a family member that, I would be crazy rich. But really, do you really need all those papers scattered all over your desk? Really? It is time to put the papers away. Clean off the desk so you actually have a space to work on. Yep, you are going to have to file them, or shred them, or recycle them. Don’t put it off. Just do it. 2. Make Your Space Yours One of the first things I do when I am making my space fresher is I hit the office store and buy desk accessories that fit my personality. They have all different kinds and even sets that match. For example, you might want to pick up a pen holder, calendar, file holder, mouse pad, etc. When you have a desk that fit who you are, you feel like you can accomplish anything. Make your space yours. Make it fit your personality. 3. Go To The Light Facing the window, especially in climates like mine that are grey for nine months of the year is key. You need natural sunlight. So I say, rearrange your desk so that it faces the sun. Working in a well lit environment creates a more successful day versus working in the dark. If you can’t move your desk, then you need to set a timer on your phone so that you can get up and get some sunlight. I recommend getting up three times a day for at least fifteen to twenty minutes each. My Take Away…. Declutter and creating an office space that fits you helps develop a fresher and successful work environment. First, put the papers away. Next, make the space yours. Fill your desk with accessories and pictures that make you feel motivated. Finally, go to the light. Face your desk towards the sunlight or take breaks throughout the day where you can get natural light. Doing these three simple sets can help create a happier day! Let’s keep the conversation going.
