What to Do When Life Gets Chaotic

I’ll tell you what…. Some weeks it seems like my schedule is empty. Other weeks, it seems like life is so chaotic that all I want to do is curl up and zone everything out. I guess the saying is true, “when it rains, it pours.” Here are a few suggestions I have when life gets chaotic.

Take a Breath

Sometimes my life moves at such a fast pace, I don’t even have time to eat. I look at the clock and say, “No, it’s 3 o’clock! How did that happen?” At this point, I start to rattle off all the things I still need to get done that day and then freak-out mode ensues. Okay, stop. Take a breath. Take one step at a time. What is the most important thing you need to get done? Do that first. Put one foot in front of the other.

Put Everything in One Place

I can’t tell you how many times I create a list. I’ve got a list for work stuff… actually more like three lists. I’ve got a list for personal things. I’ve got lists for meetings, phone calls and emails. When I look at all of these lists, I feel like I am being pulled in a million directions. My suggestion is to combine all of these lists into one list. Yep, take a few minutes and write down everything in one place. It will help you get organized. It will help you feel centered and motivated to accomplish the tasks at hand.

Life Is Fun

Life should be fun, not boring and full of things that you have to do. Don’t get stuck in that trap. When I feel like my life is chaotic, I remind myself that I chose to do these things because I thought it would make my life better. I literally stop what I am doing and ask myself, “What is going to make you feel happy today? What are the fun things that you can do today?” And then I tell myself, “I’m just going to have fun today.”

My Take Away….

Life gets chaotic, whether we like it or not. It is what we do in the moments of chaos that will either make it or break it. When you start to feel overwhelmed, take a breath, reorganize yourself so everything is in one place and find the parts in your life that are fun.
