Course Description:
This course will begin by reviewing the basic principles of behavior analysis, the operant paradigm, and how our environment shapes and maintains certain behaviors while eliminating others.Following the evolution of the behavioral paradigm, this course will then explore how private events such as thoughts and feelings began to be captured using a behavioral lens. This section will introduce the concept of RFT (relational frame theory), and how behavioral concepts are used to explain the complex process of how our external experiences become private events.
Continuing through the evolution of contextual behaviorism, this course will then elaborate on ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Drawing together the operant paradigm and the concept of mindfulness and acceptance, this section will begin by explaining the core concepts of ACT. This section will also utilize experiential exercises to illustrate the main concepts of ACT. This section will end with the specific clinical application.
